Most importantly, families must make a pledge for payments towards the cost of education on an individual basis. All pledges are reviewed (and approved) by the finance committee of the YIHS.

Part-time Students/Guest Students

Individual agreements are made with part-time students and guest students. The cost of education per student at the YIHS for the school year is approximately as follows:

Calculating your pledge

This is not an easy issue. Consider what it means to contribute your "fair share". It is relatively easy to come up with a per student cost of education by dividing the budget by the number of students. But financial inequities are a fact of life we need to come to terms with. Some families will be able to pledge more than the cost of education, so that others will be able to pledge less. Consider tithing: 10% of your income, a traditional way of relating financially to a community of service. Income surveys in the local Waldorf community reveal that if each family gave 10% of their income the operating costs for the school could be met.
