Dear YIHS Community: I am writing to you to inform you of an important change affecting the YIHS administration. In the second half of the 2006/2007 school year and continuing into the summer months, the YIHS (under the direction of the Board of Trustees) went through a process to define, re-define and revise the roles of the YIHS administrative staff and the decision-making authority within the YIHS, which led to a number of new and/or revised agreements and policies. These changes affected also the job duties/job description of the YIHS school coordinator/administrator, a position I have held since 2000. I realized that the changes and revisions have created a new and different position for me as the school coordinator/administrator, and that I am not the right person to fill this new/revised position. I will therefore not continue as the YIHS school coordinator/administrator as of September 01, 2007. The YIHS has formed a transition team consisting of Charlene Elderkin (President, Board of Trustees), Jacob Hundt (Program Director) and Liz Cox (Development Coordinator), and appointed Jacob Hundt as the interim school coordinator. Questions about finances, facilities, publications, admissions or insurance should be directed to Liz Cox. Questions regarding faculty, personnel or student affairs should be directed to Jacob. The transition team will work towards setting up a viable, long term administrative structure for our school, with a target date of completion of this process set for December 2007. I will be available in an advisory role during this transition period. With best greetings, Conrad Rehbach (School Coordinator/Administrator)
Grape Picking at Vernon Vineyards! Parents and Adult Friends—Join us on Saturday, September 8, 9 am – 1 pm, (rain date Sunday Sept 9) for a grape-picking fundraiser! By now you may have received a call from a Board member describing this event that began last year. Bob Starks of Vernon Vineyards has invited us back to pick grapes, and will donate $2.00 per bucket to YIHS. This is a very pleasant way to spend a morning in a beautiful setting and to earn a little money for the school. Bring your own gloves if you want to wear them (especially if you have a bee allergy). VV will provide scissors, but if you have a favorite pair, bring it. Bob needs to know how many volunteers to plan for, so RSVP to the school by Tuesday Sept. 4. Bring a picnic lunch! Bob will provide wine for tasting after we're through, making this a parent fundraiser. (ed note: Since the heavy rains, some fruit has begun to rot, and Bob may have to cancel or postpone this event. If you are planning to come, please stay in touch late next week.) Directions to Vernon Vineyards: From Hwy. 14 take Cty Y west 5 miles. Turn left on Irish Ridge Rd. and go ˝ mile to Dahl Lane. Go straight ˝ mi on Dahl Lane to Vineyard Driveway, and turn left.

In addition students are covered by this accident insurance while on their way to and from school, and during field trips and other official YIHS events. Families may purchase additional 24 hours “Wrap Around” coverage with optional dental benefit. For info on the 24 Hour Wrap Around, contact the school.
Dear All, MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! This fall you will have two opportunities to come together and learn about biodynamic preparation making in Wisconsin. The first event will be at Ruth, Dick, Petra and Mark Zinnikler Farm in East Troy, WI on September 29th beginning at 2:30pm with a potluck to follow and then music around the bonfire. It is a great event. Bring a dish to pass and if you play an instrument please bring it along and join in making music. For information call 262-642-5923 Ruth or 262-642-5775 Petra. The second preparation making event will be on October 6th at Chrysalis Farm,(S4001 River Road) the home of Marcia Halligan & Steven Adams outside Viroqua, WI. We will begin at 10am, have a potluck at noon and finish in the afternoon. Please bring a dish to pass and your eating utensils. Bring your questions and come and enjoy meeting the people interested in biodynamic farming & gardening in our southwest WI area. We need all the help we can get this year as we are increasing the number of cow horns we will be burying. If you need more information or have any questions please call Brian Wickert 637-8890. Please plan to attend one or both of these events. Burying the preps comes only once a year so now is your chance to learn and help. Hope to see you at one of these events. Brian Wickert 608-637-8890
