SPRING PLAY -
TARTUFFE AUDITIONS. Students
interested in participating in Tartuffe should sign up on the sheet in the
lounge. Monologues are posted to take and look over. We will have a
general open audition on Tuesday Jan. 30 at 3:15-4:30 in the auditorium.
You will be asked to read from one or several monologues or work thru a
scene with others. We will schedule another audition the following
Tuesday (2/6) for the students who are not able to attend. Students from
all grades are encouraged to audition for the experience of it - juniors
and seniors will have the priority in casting. There is also sign up
space for set construction, costumes, tech and publicity. We will begin
working on the plays Feb. 27 by having the show cast and starting
preliminary design work on costumes and set. We will then be able to
begin formulating the 'other play'. This advance work is setting the
course for an outstanding performance at the Temple Theatre in May.
PARENTS - let's start thinking about concessions now. All information
must be presented to the Temple Theatre by the end of April for approval.
We need someone to take on this project and another parent to help with
the feeding of the performers and crew during the final rehearsals.

Viterbo University Theatre Department presents NOEL COWARD'S BLITHE SPIRIT on Thursday, February 22, 2007 - 9:30 am. This comedy about life and death in English society blends sophistication, wit, and a bit of slapstick! Middle-aged novelist Charles Condomine and his second wife are haunted by the ghost of Charles' first wife Elvira. Medium Madame Arcati tries to help by contacting the ghost and that's when the mischief and the fun begin. Recommended grades: High School. Approximate length: 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Ticket price: $4 for groups of 20 or more/$6 for groups less than 20. For reservations or more information, contact Viterbo Arts for Young America phone 608-796-3735; e-mail AYA@viterbo.edu Further information on the play (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia): Blithe Spirit (1941) is a comic play written by Noel Coward which takes its title from Shelley's poem To a Skylark. The action of the play centres on socialite Charles Condomine being haunted by the ghost of his first wife Elvira following a séance, and Elvira's continued (and increasingly desperate) efforts to disrupt Charles' current marriage. Aside from some excellent dialogue and comic scenes, the play is also notable for the splendid comic character of Madame Arcati, the eccentric medium. The play provoked a small outcry at the time of its first performances, as it was seen to be possibly making fun of death at the height of World War II; however, such objections were quickly forgotten and the play went on to set all manner of British box-office records.
Georg Locher presents: The Arts and Academia: The Fundamental Importance of the Arts in the Development of the Child on Wednesday, January 31, 7:00-9:00pm and Saturday February 3, 1:00-5:00pm at the Minnesota Waldorf School, 70 East County Rd B, Maplewood. Georg Locher, a master teacher of Waldorf Education, will be visiting MWS from January 28-February 5. Mr. Locher has had a life-time of experience in Waldorf teaching. Beginning as a Waldorf student in Germany, he became a teacher of the same for 30 years in Germany, Switzerland and England. He subsequently taught teacher trainees for many years at Emerson College in England and has been mentoring many schools in North America. One of Mr. Locher's fortes and deep concerns is the fundamental importance of the Arts in children's education and health. From learning the 3 R's to understanding Chemistry and Astronomy, the visual, aural, plastic and kinetic arts have profound psychological and physiological consequences. Recognized in mainstream literature and educational circles as "the Mozart Effect", the Arts have been woven into every subject in every grade in Waldorf Schools for over 80 years. Children sing, play music, draw, paint, model, dance and dramatize their lessons, and by so doing, through intense interest, warming love and radiant joy, en-soul the same with themselves. It is this ensouling that is the human essence of education. On Wednesday evening, Mr. Locher will introduce the subject, drawing upon his many years as both a student and a teacher. On Saturday morning, he will be working with 1st and 2nd grade parents on the Arts and Reading in the lower grades, addressing questions and concerns about learning difficulties and the Waldorf approach to them. Saturday afternoon he will take up the theme on a more practical level. Painting, form drawing, modeling, music and Eurythmy are essential to Waldorf Education, and one or more of these will be experienced in the workshop. Please contact Heidi in the MWS office if you intend to come (651-647-6700). A donation of $10 for the lecture and $20 for the workshop, or $25 for both, is requested. All are welcome.
I have several years of recent Science magazines in excellent condition (like new, clean and dry). Would anyone like to have them? Contact Deborah Baer at djbaer@mchsi.com.
