Guest Teacher Visit. On Friday November 30, Youth Initiative High School had a very exciting visitor. Dr. Alfred McCoy taught the 12th Grade world history class, delivering a lecture on the history of psychological torture. Dr. McCoy is a professor of History at the University of Wisconsin and the author of numerous books, including The Politics of Heroin and a A Question of Torture. His talk examined the role of the CIA in developing and disseminating the methods of torture most famously used at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and the Abu Ghraib prison.
Parent Meeting. The next parent meeting will be on Thursday December 14, 2006 at 7:00 PM in room 305. Please send agenda items to Conrad by Thursday 6:59 PM or earlier.
Great Outdoor Fishing. Hello Everyone: This summer, one of our long-time supporters donated land at Dutch Hollow Lake near La Valle to benefit the school. We are now selling the land with the help of Tom Reuter of America's Land & Home Store in Westby (check out the listing at http://www.landandhomestore.com/vacantland.htm or call Tom at 608-634-4955). If you, a family member, friend, business associate or neighbor might be interested, please have them contact Tom--the sale will greatly benefit our school! Spread the word--it's a lovely site for a residence or vacation home. If your friends or parents are looking for land in the area, please tell them to call Tom. Lot 477, Summit Point Drive, LaValle, Sauk Co. $5,900 Priced to sell! Beautiful offshore lake lot with an elevated building site. Rolling hills abound in this great Dutch Hollow Lake community. Christian Community News. Dear friends, We are, after all, going to have our usual Sunday morning conversation this coming Sunday 10th December. It will take place again at Sarah Kamin's home - 637 Garfield Ave - at 11 am. We will continue reading and discussing Adam Bittleston's book, Human Needs and Cosmic Answers. The first December chapter is, surprisingly perhaps, on The Rainbow. Incidentally, the Christian Community bookstall (inaugurated at the Pleasant Ridge Holiday Fair) has several copies of this book if any of you would like to purchase it. The following Sunday 17th December will be our monthly Lay Service, at 11am at the Old Main Building, followed by a potluck. We are also discussing the possibility of having a short service on Christmas Day morning: if any of you who receive this would be interested in this, do please let me know. We are also in the process of arranging events for the Holy Nights (25th Dec - 6th January) and will let you all know more about them as details emerge. Last Sunday, the Christian Community - Viroqua steering group agreed upon a budget for 2007. You will shortly receive a copy of it in the mail along with a request for financial contributions to this new initiative. Best wishes, -- Paul Newton (637-8057) |
